Help for playwrights

Still got that play you wrote in a drawer somewhere? Not sure that

it’s any good? Need some help with it and would welcome supportive criticism? Radius script assessment service is for people like you. Your script will be assessed by the three members of our Reading Panel,

all active in the professional theatre, who will each present you with a report offering hints and tips on how the script can be improved.

Assessments are aimed to encourage writers, focusing on dialogue, characterisation, narrative, stage directions and setting the scene.

The assessment panel will consider any script, but if you are hoping that Radius will include it on our list of available plays there are certain things you should bear in mind.

1. We are mainly looking for plays lasting about an hour and no longer than 90 minutes.

2. Our plays fall into two broad categories: plays for use in church at defined points in the Church’s year, particularly Christmas and Easter, although scripts focusing on other events in the Christian calendar are welcome, and plays on social, ethical and spiritual themes which may not be explicitly religious but which are of interest to people of faith.

Help and support

Radius’s strapline is ‘exploring faith through drama’ and our aim is not to preach but to open up possibilities. James Lark’s 10 Points for Writers – guidelines on technical points can be found on the Writing advice page.

If you would like to submit a play for assessment, email it to info@radiusdrama.org.uk. We charge a sum that contributes towards the cost of assessment. The fee is £25.

Consider the public. Treat it with tact and courtesy. It will accept much from you if you are clever enough to win it to your side. Never fear it nor despise it. Coax it, charm it, interest it, stimulate it, shock it now and then, if you must, make it laugh, make it cry and make it think, but above all, dear pioneers . . .  never never never bore the living hell out of it. Noel Coward, 1899-1973
